Artist Talk with Regina Pessoa

January 28th, 2019

An artist’s talk on animation by Regina Pessoa
Friday, February 8, 2019, at 4 p.m.

In partnership with the Sommets du cinéma d’animation, the NFB is pleased to invite you to an artist’s talk by filmmaker Regina Pessoa. This is a golden opportunity, since she’s rarely in town—plus, you’ll be among the first to see excerpts from her new and as yet unreleased film!
Born in Portugal, the acclaimed animator is in Montreal to complete post-production on her latest work, Accounting of the Days. This follow-up to her celebrated trilogy on childhood—A Noite (1999), Tragic Story with Happy Ending (2005) and Kali the Little Vampire (2012)—is her most personal work to date. It’s a powerful, heartfelt ode to her beloved uncle, a quirky loner with a lasting influence on her life, sparking her desire to be an artist.
Engraving may be Pessoa’s signature style as an animator, but here she explores new avenues, rounding out her technical palette with stop motion, drawing and shadow projection on the walls (the walls of her childhood). An ambitious work, both narratively and artistically, Accounting of the Days is intricate and painstaking—in a word: animation at its finest!
During the class, Pessoa will take us behind the scenes to explore the making of this exquisitely crafted, sensitive film.
