The Foundations is the first collaboration between illustrator and graphic-novel writer Pascal Blanchet and animator and filmmaker Rodolphe Saint-Gelais. Their complementary styles blend beautifully to create the refined elegance and implacable geometry of this poem in black, white and pink.
Their short film tells the story of Gabrielle, who writes a poignant posthumous love letter to her grieving husband, Philippe, who must endure the family ritual of the funeral. Could her death have been voluntary? At once empty and inhabited by the memory of Gabrielle, the couple’s mansion becomes the only witness to Philippe’s heartfelt pain.
Don’t miss this chance to learn the ins and outs of the directors’ creative process and the techniques they used to make this breathtaking film.
