Announcing the Sommets 2023 full program!

April 26th, 2023

The Sommets du cinéma d'animation are back this spring, from May 9 to 14 at the Cinémathèque québécoise with a program of screenings, exhibitions and events, including 152 films (including 45 premieres), 4 exhibitions, 6 professional meetings and a large variety of free activities - for everyone. An edition not to be missed!

AN EDITION RICH IN DIVERSITY
This 21st edition promises to be memorable, with a rich and diverse program. The Sommets du cinéma d'animation will present a total of 57 films in competition**.

Among these works, let's mention these world premieres: LA FILLE AU BÉRET ROUGE by Janet Perlman, RETURN TO HAIRY HILL by Daniel Gies, TWO ONE TWO by Shira Avni and TRASIEGO by Amanda Woolrich. Other must-sees include Janice Nadeau's latest project, HARVEY, adapted from the graphic novel of the same title, MARIE . EDUARDO . SOPHIE, the latest film by filmmaker Thomas Corriveau, and CORVINE by Sean McCarron.

In addition, 6 feature films will be screened during special presentations: Inna Sahakyan's AURORA'S, SUNRISE, which opens the festival, Signe Baumane's MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH MARRIAGE, which won a Jury Mention at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Yonfan's Chinese animated film NO 7 CHERRY LANE, the documentary** THEODORE USHEV: UNSEEN CONNECTIONS** by Borislav Kolev, TITINA by Kajsa Næss based on the expedition of Umberto Nobile and Roald Amundsen to conquer the North Pole and, in a unique free outdoor "Bring your pup" screening, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN by Don Bluth.

The famous Best-of Annecy program will obviously be back this year, with no less than 3 screenings scheduled on May 10, 13 and 14. The Grand angle program - a non-competitive program dedicated to discovery, exploration and daring - is also on the menu this year and will present two screenings featuring 18 works: from Dumas's music video, LEITMOTIV, directed by Louis-Philippe Eno, to OCCHIOLINO, by the inimitable Michaela Grill.

NOT EXCLUSIVELY CINEMA...
The Sommets are an event for everyone: animation enthusiasts, new audiences, young and old. Festival-goers always have the pleasure of discovery in a friendly atmosphere. The Sommets are very pleased to welcome back the Dérapage festival, an event highlighting non-narrative audiovisual productions with sound and a duration of less than 3 minutes, on Thursday May 11th. On the same evening, the public will be able to view two episodes of RED KETCHUP by Martin Villeneuve, in the company of the artists and artisans of the series, on the Cinémathèque's terrasse. The event is presented in collaboration with Télétoon and the Festival BD de Montréal. On May 12, the esplanade Tranquille, in the Quartier des spectacles, will host a selection of 10 short films from the Sommets: including the cream of the crop of this 2023 edition. Other events not to be missed during the weekend May 13 and 14 include, among others, the ARTISTS TALK NFB X SOMMETS BY JANET PERLMAN, the virtual reality experience of an autistic child's emotions THE FEET UP: LOU presented by Annick Daigneault and Martine Asselin, as well as a Stop-Motion workshop for the youngest. Presented in collaboration with the Festival Stop Motion Montréal, the activity will allow children aged 8 to 12 to learn cutting and assembly techniques in order to create easily animated construction paper characters. Finally, the unmissable KARAOKÉ DES SOMMETS on Saturday evening will be an opportunity to prove that you have a voice (or not) during a casual and friendly evening at the Cinémathèque's Café-bar and an excellent time to taste the Official Beer of the 2023 Sommets, conceived by **MaBrasserie **!
