Theodore Ushev's The Physics of Sorrow, the first fully animated work to use the technique of encaustic painting, is inspired from a novel by Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov. The film paints a compelling picture of a disconnected generation, lost inside perpetually shifting spaces both private and geographical. Every frame of the film, exquisitely drawn and animated by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker, is a work of art in itself, aptly evoking the mesmerizing existence of its nostalgic protagonist.
