Salle Fernand-Seguin

The latest cohort of the NFB’s Alambic program participates in a roundtable discussion on taking a documentary approach to animation.
This discussion explores the challenges and possibilities that arise at the intersection of animation and documentary filmmaking. In the spotlight are the three filmmakers from the most recent cohort of the NFB’s ALAMBIC program—Elizabeth Laferrière, Fanny Lord Bourcier and Carine Khalifé—along with the impressive creative team that supported them: Karl Lemieux (mentoring director), Joël Vaudreuil (editor), Raquel Sancinetti (associate producer), Sacha Ratcliffe (music composer and sound designer) and Jelena Popovic (producer).
A true creative lab, the ALAMBIC program offers emerging artists the opportunity to develop animated stories in just a few months, drawing inspiration from social issues that are viewed through their own inner lenses. Under the theme “Animating Reality,” this second edition has produced a crop of bold films: Hospital, with Love, Matrescence and Ambiguous Losses. The panel will offer an opportunity to discuss the artistic and narrative choices that shape this hybrid genre. The three films from this latest edition will also be screened.
The event will be followed by a 5 à 7 to continue the discussion!
This presentation will be held in French.
