Eloi Champagne leads the development and implementation of the NFB’s tech strategies. He worked as the Technical Director at the English Animation Studio for about 12 years before becoming the Head of Technical Direction and Production Technologies. With extensive expertise in visual effects and a broad network of contacts within the industry, he continuously innovates with film teams by providing original technical and technological solutions that help push the boundaries of auteur animation.

What does a technical director actually do in the world of animation? In this behind-the-scenes talk, Eloi will draw on his experience at the NFB to explore the unique intersection between technology and creativity. Using recent NFB films that he and his team have contributed to, Eloi will demonstrate how specific artistic challenges have generated innovative technical approaches and how technical problems have led to unexpected creative breakthroughs.
